Packing Help

Packing and Unpacking Help in the DMV

Packing is the part people underestimate. A one-bedroom apartment takes most of a weekend to pack properly, and the difference between a good pack and a rushed one shows up at the other end — in what arrives broken and in how long it takes to feel settled. Book a crew for a few hours and it stops being the thing you dread.

$119 per hour for a two-person crew Two-hour minimum. Packing help starts at $238. Materials are additional unless you provide them.

Packing and Unpacking Help — Teachers Who Move

Full pack or the parts you hate

Some customers want everything packed. Most want help with specific rooms: the kitchen, because glassware is tedious and risky; the closet, because clothes are bulky and awkward; the office, because cables and paperwork multiply. You can book us for the whole apartment or for the two rooms you would rather not think about.

Labeling that earns its keep

Every box gets its destination room and a short contents note on the top and one side, so a box that is turned around in a stack is still readable. Anything fragile is marked and loaded last. Boxes you will want on the first night — bedding, chargers, toiletries, coffee — get marked as first-open so they do not end up at the bottom of a stack.

Unpacking, which almost nobody books and everybody wants

Unpacking is the same hourly rate and often the better use of the money. A crew can get a kitchen out of boxes and into cabinets in an afternoon, break down and stack the cardboard for your building’s recycling and leave you with a home rather than a warehouse.

Who this is for

  • Anyone short on time before a move-out date
  • Customers with a kitchen full of glassware, dishes or stemware
  • People who want their new place unpacked rather than lived out of boxes
  • Customers preparing for a self-driven move who want the load ready before the truck arrives
  • Anyone who would rather pay for a few focused hours than lose two weekends

What is included

  • Two-person crew
  • Room-by-room packing or unpacking
  • Careful wrapping of fragile items
  • Clear box labeling by room and contents
  • Breaking down and stacking cardboard after unpacking
  • Two-hour minimum

What is not included

  • Packing materials unless you ask us to bring them (charged at cost, listed on your quote)
  • Packing hazardous materials, unsecured liquids, open food or anything on our restricted list
  • Cleaning
  • Sorting, valuing or disposing of belongings

How it works

  1. Tell us which rooms

The whole home or specific rooms, and whether you need materials or already have them.

  2. Get an hour estimate

As a rough guide, a two-person crew packs a studio in about three to four hours and a one-bedroom in four to six.

  3. Approve your written quote

Hours, materials and the minimum, in writing.

  4. Packing day

We work room by room, keep a clear path, and check the labeling scheme with you before we start.

Property types we work in

  • Apartments and condos
  • Rowhouses and townhouses
  • Small single-family homes
  • Home offices and studios

Equipment we bring

  • Packing paper, bubble wrap and stretch wrap
  • Standard small, medium and large cartons
  • Dish and glass cell dividers
  • Wardrobe and mirror cartons on request
  • Markers and labels

Safety

  • Fragile items are wrapped individually, not layered loose in a carton.
  • Boxes are packed to a weight one person can lift safely — a book box that needs two people is a box packed badly.
  • We do not pack hazardous materials, fuel, unsecured liquids or open food, and we will set them aside and tell you.
  • Crew members complete moving, lifting, equipment and customer-service training before accepting assignments.

Questions

Packing Help — frequently asked

How many boxes will I need?

A rough planning figure is 20 to 30 boxes for a studio, 30 to 50 for a one-bedroom and 50 to 80 for a two-bedroom, plus wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes. We would rather you have a few spare than run out mid-pack.

Can you bring the boxes?

Yes. Materials are charged at cost and listed on your quote. Plenty of customers save money by sourcing free boxes locally and having us bring only paper and tape.

Do I need to be there while you pack?

For at least the first half hour, so we can agree what stays, what goes and how you want things labeled. After that many customers get on with other things.

Can you pack the day before the move?

That is the most common arrangement and usually the best one — packing the morning of a move is how move days run late.

Will you pack my TV?

Yes, in a specialty carton or heavily wrapped. Original boxes are best if you kept them. Mounted televisions need to be taken down before we arrive unless you have booked disassembly.
