College Park and the academic calendar

Student and university-adjacent moves cluster hard around the start and end of terms, and August in particular is the busiest moving month in this part of the county. Apartment complexes near campus often have their own move-in procedures, elevator reservations and designated loading areas during those weeks. If you are moving in or out around a term boundary, book as far ahead as you can, and expect the building — not us — to be the constraint on your window.

The Route 1 corridor and the arts district

Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, Mount Rainier and Brentwood mix older single-family homes and bungalows with newer mid-rise apartments along the corridor. The newer buildings have elevators and structured parking; the older streets have driveways and alley access. Both are easy to work in. Mount Rainier and the older Hyattsville blocks share the DC characteristic of narrow interior staircases in pre-war houses.

Greenbelt, Bowie, Largo and Laurel

Further out, the housing is mostly garden apartments, townhouse communities and single-family homes with driveways — straightforward moves with good parking and a short carry. The variable is distance: Laurel or Bowie to an address inside the Beltway is a genuine drive, and beyond 15 miles between your two addresses we add $2.50 per mile. We show that on the estimate rather than at the end.
