Labor-Only Help
Labor-Only Movers in the DMV: Loading and Unloading Help
If you have already rented a truck, a trailer or a portable storage container, you do not need a moving company — you need moving helpers who know how to load it. Our labor-only service sends a trained two-person crew to your address to load, unload, or both. You provide and drive the vehicle. We handle the lifting, the stacking and the placement.
Loading help, unloading help, or both
Most customers book us twice: once to load at the old place and once to unload at the new one. Plenty of people book only one end — you drive a U-Haul down from Philadelphia and want two people waiting to carry everything up to a third-floor Arlington apartment, or you are loading a POD in your driveway and want it packed tightly so nothing shifts on the road. Both are normal bookings.
Why loading technique matters more than speed
A rental truck that is loaded loosely will rearrange itself on I-495 no matter how carefully you drive. We load in tiers, heaviest and squarest items to the front wall, mattresses and flat items on the sides as padding, and we strap off each tier before starting the next. Boxes get stacked heaviest to lightest, and awkward items get wrapped before they touch anything else. Done right, a container or truck arrives looking the way it left.
What we can and cannot do with your vehicle
Our crew does not drive customer-provided trucks, trailers or vehicles, and we do not tow. That is a licensing and insurance line we will not cross, and any company that offers casually to drive your rental is worth a second look. You keep the keys and the driving; we do the work at each end.

How it works
-
Tell us which end you need
Loading, unloading or both — and what vehicle you have rented, since a 26-foot truck and a U-Box load very differently.
-
Get your preliminary estimate
We estimate hours from your home size, floor, stairs and item list, then show you the range.
-
Receive your written final quote
Confirmed in writing before anything is booked, including the arrival window and what happens if your rental pickup runs late.
-
We meet your truck
The crew arrives at the address and vehicle you specify and works your hours. If you finish early, we tell you rather than stretching the clock.
Property types we work in
- Apartments and condos with loading docks or street parking only
- Rowhouses with rear alley access
- Single-family homes and driveways where a container is dropped
- Self-storage facilities
- College and university housing
Equipment we bring
- Hand trucks, four-wheel dollies and appliance dollies
- Moving blankets and stretch wrap for handling
- Ratchet straps for tiering a load
- Shoulder dollies and lifting straps
- Floor runners and door protection
Safety
- Crew members complete moving, lifting, equipment and customer-service training before accepting assignments.
- We do not exceed safe two-person lifting limits; if an item needs more people, we say so before the job rather than improvising.
- We will not load a vehicle beyond what can be safely secured, and we will tell you if your rental is too small for what you have.
- Ramps, thresholds and wet weather change how we sequence a load, and the crew lead will walk you through it.

Questions
Labor-Only Help — frequently asked
Do you drive the rental truck?
No. Our crew loads and unloads; you drive. We do not drive customer-provided trucks or trailers and we do not tow.
How many hours will loading a one-bedroom take?
A typical one-bedroom on an accessible floor takes a two-person crew about two to three hours to load. Add roughly half an hour per flight of stairs, and more if elevator access is shared with other residents.
Can you load a POD or U-Box?
Yes. Portable containers are one of our most common labor-only jobs. Tell us the container size and where it is sitting, since a container in a driveway and a container at a storage yard are different jobs.
Do I need to provide moving blankets?
For a rental truck, yes — blankets and straps that stay with your load are your rental. We bring our own equipment for handling and protecting items while we carry them.
What if my rental truck pickup runs late?
Tell us as soon as you know. The clock starts when the crew arrives and is ready to work, so a delayed truck can cost you billed time. We will always try to adjust the window rather than bill you for waiting.
Is labor-only cheaper than a full-service move?
Usually, if you are comfortable driving. You pay $119 per hour instead of $159 and you cover the rental, fuel and tolls yourself. For larger homes it is often the cheapest sensible option; for a studio a few blocks away, a van and crew can work out about the same.
