Silver Spring runs from downtown towers to quiet 1940s streets within about a mile and a half, and the move changes completely as you cross that line. Downtown means reserved elevators and garage loading. Woodside, Seven Oaks and Four Corners mean driveways and interior stairs. We work all of it, seven days a week.
The apartment towers around Georgia Avenue, Colesville Road, Fenton Street and the Ripley District are the densest housing in the county outside Bethesda. They generally require a freight elevator reservation and load from an interior garage or a dedicated bay rather than the street. Check the garage clearance height if you are thinking of renting a truck — a cargo van clears these comfortably and a 16-foot box truck often does not. Street parking downtown is metered and busy enough that the dock is always the better answer.
The garden-apartment communities along Piney Branch Road, Flower Avenue and Long Branch are two- and three-storey walk-ups with surface parking close to the buildings. These are simple, quick moves where the floor number is the whole estimate: a third-floor one-bedroom is about an hour longer than a ground-floor one, and stairs beyond the first flight are $20 per flight.
The older residential neighborhoods have the region’s familiar pre-war problem — narrow staircases with a turn at the landing, plus attic bedrooms and finished basements that quietly add a flight to your move. Parking is generally easy with driveways or unrestricted street parking. Near the Takoma Park boundary, streets narrow and parking tightens, so a weekend morning start is usually smoother than a weekday evening.

Before you set a date, ask your building or property manager three questions: what hours moves are permitted, whether the elevator or dock must be reserved, and what documentation they require from a moving company. Those three answers shape the whole plan.

Local questions
Most do. Reserve it yourself with the management office — buildings generally will only take a reservation from the resident — then send us the window and we will plan around it.
Often not. Check the posted clearance at the entrance. A cargo van clears nearly all of them, which is one reason van-and-crew can be the simpler choice downtown.
Yes — it is one of our most common routes, and it is comfortably inside the 15 included miles for most addresses.
Regularly. Stairs beyond the first flight are $20 per flight and we build the extra time into the estimate rather than discovering it on the day.
